Health Sciences Library Annual Report (2013-2014)

Included below are the strategic priorities for the year 2013-2014 with status outcomes, and the strategic priorities for 2014-2015. We have an annual review process that ensures that the priorities continue to align with NOSM's Strategic Plan and the School's Performance Goals. I welcome suggestions for future priorities, or comments about this report.

Strategic Priorities (2013-2014)

Status of 2013-2014 Strategic Priorities:

  1. Implement the URL resolver for fall 2013. check mark
  2. Evaluate the a la carte serials subscriptions. Question mark Suspended due to sabbatical
  3. Identify and implement Liaison Librarians for the five Theme Committees (UME). check mark
  4. Develop and implement evidence-based medicine content for the Royal College Specialty Training programs (PGE). check mark
  5. Evaluate and revise the LibGuides content and delivery. check mark
  6. Launch revised website, including mobile interface. check mark Mobile interface pending upgrades to website content management system.
  7. Increase library visibility via promotions strategy. check mark 
  8. Develop and implement a copyright services program. check mark 
  9. Investigate the opportunities relating to digital object identifiers and compliance via institutional repositories. check mark

Strategic Priorities (2014-2015)

Access Services:

  • Streamline and address issues with access to eResources.
  • Develop and implement a Metadata service. 

Education Services:

  • Develop and implement a library-based process for the evaluation of undergraduate medical curriculum resources.
  • Evaluate and revise the content and delivery of the library's instructional sessions.  

Public Services:

  • Develop and implement a Public Relations Plan.
  • Streamline user registration by implementing a uniform system.

Research Services:

  • Actively support NOSM's 5 year Research Plan.
  • Implement an Archives Services Program.

Administration:

  • Develop and implement an Accessibility plan.
  • Research and select an assessment tool to evaluate library services.

Advisory Group

The Health Sciences Library Advisory Group meets bi-annually. It's primary functions are: 

  • To act as a link with the users of the Health Sciences Library
  • To ensure the Health Sciences Library’s policies and procedures reflect the vision, mission and strategic goals of NOSM 
  • To advise the Health Sciences Library Director in matters pertaining to: Collections, Strategic Priorities, Library Services & Facilities

A combination of ex-officio and elected representatives comprise the membership. The meetings are open to all users of the Library.
