Researcher Profiles: Google Scholar

A guide to a variety of researcher profile systems along with tips to optimize their performance.

What is Google Scholar Profile?

Google Scholar Profile is a personal page for researchers and academics where Google Scholar automatically collects and lists their published works. It also tracks citations and provides an h-index and an i10-index.

Getting started with Google Scholar Profile

You will need a Google account to set up a Google Scholar Profile page. Ensure you are signed in to a personal Google account that you will not lose access to before you set up your Google Scholar Profile page.

Go to Google Scholar and click on My Profile in the top right-hand corner to get started. Follow these steps to set up your profile.

Confirm what Google account you are using before you set up your Google Scholar Profile. If you lose access to the account in the future, you may not be able to recover your Google Scholar Profile.

Maintaining your Google Scholar Profile

If you have configured your profile to auto-update, Google will continue to add new works it thinks are yours as you publish. It may add works that do not belong to you, add the same work twice, or make other errors in the data. Look here for tips on managing errors and correcting to your profile.

We recommend doing a checkup of your Google Scholar Profile once a year.
