The Medical Letter publishes critical appraisals of new prescription drugs and comparative reviews of previously approved drugs. Content provided through its newsletters Medical Letter on Drugs and Therapeutics and Treatment Guidelines from the Medical Letter are peer reviewed and evidence based.
Creating a personal account:
1. Click here to access NOSM University's subscription to Medical Letter
2. In the left sidebar of the Medical Letter Page you will see "Mobile Apps" under the heading "About Us".
3. Click on "Mobile Apps"
4. Create your personal account
5. Download and sign into the app on your mobile device using your personal account
NLM Drug Information Portal

The NLM Drug Information Portal is a mobile interface with over 38,000 indexed drugs. Drug monographs include drug names, pharmaceutical categories, structural diagrams and key links to the National Library of Medicine and US government sites.
Epocrates

Epocrates is a free mobile drug and formulary reference tool. Includes a pill identification tool, dose calculator and robust drug interaction checker. Additional features are available for a fee within the app.
Health Canada Recalls & Safety Alerts

The Health Canada Recalls & Safety Alerts app provides a list of recalls and safety alerts for health products (including drugs, herbals and supplements), vehicles, consumer products and food.
LactMed
Mobile App: iTunes, Google Play
The LactMed app provides information on maternal and infant drug levels, the possible effects of pharmaceuticals on lactation and breast fed infants and suggests alternative drugs for consideration. This app is produced by the US National Library of Medicine's Toxicology Network.
NPC Opioid Guidelines

This app was developed by the National Opioid Use Guideline Group (NOUGG) and is based on their clinical practice guideline (CPG) the Canadian Guideline for Safe and Effective Use of Opioids for Chronic Non-cancer Pain. This CPG is aimed to help patients to be informed about the benefits and risks of opioids and support healthcare providers in their role in achieving desired patient outcomes.
Micromedex Drug Reference Essentials

Micromedex Drug Reference Essentials provides mobile access to comprehensive drug information. Topics covered include adverse effects, drug interactions, adult and pediatric dosage, black box warnings, breastfeeding, common trade names, monitoring, therapeutic class and more.
Opioid Manager

The Opioid Manager can be used as a point of care tool for health care providers prescribing opioid for patients with non-cancer pain. It is a condensed version of the Canada Opioid Guideline. It address four main clinical areas. A - Before you write the prescription. B - How to conduct an opioid trial. C - How to monitor patients on chronic opioid therapy and D - When and how to stop opioids.
