  • Controlling for "I don't know" and "N/A" responses, 76% of patients did not agree that they had been told if there was an error or mistake in their health care.
  • 15-20% of patients did not agree that the MD:
    • Considered it important that a family member or friend be involved (Communicator)
    • Explained who to contact if s/he was not available (Collaborator)
    • Referred them to another health care provider if needed (Professional)

CMPA report with key learning opportunities

The Canadian Medical Protective Association reported key factors leading to complaints and/or cases in Northern Ontario, and identified associated areas for targeted learning. These areas can be integrated into a variety of clinical topics and form the basis for one or more learning objectives in non-Medical Expert CanMEDS competencies.
