Movember Contest

During the month of November we ran our #Movemberatthelibrary contest:

Movember Contest

Facilities Improvements

Two charging stations were purchased and installed at each campus. Kwikboost was able to personalized the stations with our logo.

We replaced the main information desk at the Lakehead campus. This new desk was designed to be more accessible to our users, and to improve the workflow for staff. Components are height adjustable, and we were able to match the existing Library furniture.

Food for Fines

Food for fines

Food for Fines allows library users to donate non-perishable food items in exchange for their overdue fines. Each food item equals $2.00 in waived  fines.

The event is held in April/May to coincide with convocation. This provides an opportunity for students to settle their outstanding library fines prior to graduation.

$81.90 was forgiven.

e-Reserves

We launched a new system for reserves to coincide with the academic year start in September. The tool improves the staff workflow for reserves, and provides a greater functionality for students to access their course e-reserves. The tool is an add-on to our Libguides subscription.

I ❤️ NOSM Open House

As part of the NOSM Open House, the Library staff provided an interactive station showcasing select medical apps:

Point of Care Tool Working Group

In order to ensure the information needs of students and faculty in their clinical education settings are addressed, while balancing a need for fiscally responsible selection, a point of care tool review was undertaken.

To conduct the Point of Care (POC) tool review, a Working Group was struck with the following mandate:

① Reviewing the evidence/literature to select possible tools for review
② Reviewing criteria to evaluate the selected tools
③ Reviewing the results of user evaluations
④ Recommending the necessary point of care tool

The WG was Chaired by the Associate Dean Research and membership included key stakeholders from: Executive Group, Undergraduate & Postgraduate Programs, Postgraduate resident, Undergraduate student, Clinical faculty and the Library Director.

The user evaluation included an online survey, and a subsequent deeper dive by power users (who were selected from faculty, residents and students).
