Where to Publish: Need Help?

A guide to help you find the right place to publish your research

Scholarly Publishing Support Service

The Scholarly Publishing Support Service helps NOSM University faculty, learners, and staff identify suitable venues for publication. We provide tailored journal suggestions based on your research topic and goals.

To request support, email askthelibrary@nosm.ca with the following details:

  • A brief description of your manuscript
  • Your intended audience (e.g., surgeons, family physicians, nurses)
  • Relevant disciplines (e.g., family medicine, oncology)
  • Your references, if available

A librarian will review your submission and provide a list of peer-reviewed journals aligned with your topic. If additional details are needed, we’ll follow up by email.

Each suggested journal includes:

  • Open access status
  • Article processing charges (APCs), if applicable
  • Library discounts on APCs
  • Impact metrics, if available
  • Indexing status (MEDLINE, CINAHL, etc.)
  • Table of contents for the latest issue
  • Author guidelines

Tracking and Assessing Research Impact

Many funding agencies request journal impact factors and individual scholarly metrics as part of the grant application process. The library offers a support service to help you compile these metrics.

To request this service, email askthelibrary@nosm.ca and include:

  • Full names of all research team members
  • Affiliations for each team member (including any outside of NOSM University)
  • A list of journals for which impact factor information is needed
  • An updated publication list or current CVs for each team member
  • The time period to be covered (e.g., the past five years)

We will provide a summary of relevant journal and author metrics in both tabular and graphical format. If more information is needed, we’ll follow up by email or phone.
